We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our team as the Legal Counsel Finance specializing in the renewable energy sector with a specific focus on wind, solar, and battery storage projects. In this role, you will be responsible for providing legal expertise and guidance in the drafting and negotiations of finance and security agreements related to our renewable energy projects in East/ Central Europe. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the successful implementation and operating our renewable energy assets.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts, equipment supply agreements, land lease agreements, and interconnection agreements.
- Ensure that contracts accurately reflect the organization's interests, rights, and obligations, while mitigating legal risks.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to negotiate favourable terms, resolve disputes, and address legal issues during contract negotiations.
- Stay updated on legal and regulatory developments affecting renewable energy contracts and advise stakeholders on any potential implications.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to renewable energy projects, including renewable energy certificates (RECs), environmental regulations, and grid connection requirements.
- Conduct legal research to assess the impact of new regulations and assist in developing strategies to address compliance obligations.
- Advise on legal risks associated with contracts and propose appropriate risk mitigation measures.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies and external legal counsel to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Track key contractual obligations, milestones, and deadlines to ensure compliance and prevent any potential breaches.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve contractual issues, interpret contract terms, and facilitate contract modifications when necessary.
- Conduct periodic contract reviews to identify areas for improvement, streamline processes, and ensure contractual obligations are met.
- Identify legal risks associated with renewable energy projects, such as project financing, construction delays, equipment warranties, intellectual property, and insurance coverage.
- Collaborate with project teams to assess risks, develop risk mitigation strategies, and implement appropriate contractual provisions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, finance professionals, and senior management, to provide legal support and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, such as clients, vendors, regulatory authorities, and external legal counsel, to address legal matters and negotiate contractual terms.
What you bring
- Degree in Law.
- Admitted to the bar association of the relevant jurisdiction(s).
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in legal roles, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Eastern and Central European legal frameworks and regulations related to renewable energy.
- Proven experience in negotiating and drafting contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Ability to lead the legal function of a fast-paced growing business
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and cross-functional environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
